The collection contains correspondence with participants in the Boston Draft Resistance Group (BDRG), that Foley contacted for research in his dissertation, and later book, Confronting the war machine: draft resistance during the Vietnam War (Chapel Hill : University of North Carolina Press, c2003). In addition to the correspondence questionnaires and transcripts of interviews with are included in the collection. Foley's interviews with many of the former members of the BDRG, along with questionnaires filled out by many draft resisters, provide valuable source material.

Michael Ferber was born in Buffalo, New York, and attended Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where he received his B.A. in Greek Literature in 1966. In the fall of 1967 he helped organize and publicize a ceremony at the Arlington Street Church, Boston, where draft-age men were to turn in their draft cards and pledge to refuse induction and go to prison.
